Hand‑Lacquered in Wajima — Each Chopstick Finished with Care
Skilled artisans in Wajima apply natural Japanese lacquer to each chopstick by hand. The lacquer creates a rich, smooth thickness with a subtle texture that feels mfortable in the hand, while allowing the natural grain of the Noto Hiba wood to show through. This is not a simple wiped‑lacquer finish, but a carefully technique that highlights the beauty of the material.

[A Modern Take on Noto Wajima Craftsmanship]

In early 2024, a major earthquake struck the Noto region, deeply affecting the communities and workshops we work with. Although the artisans in Wajima were safe, their production was forced to halt for an extended period. After operations finally resumed in 2025, we introduced this updated version of our chopsticks as a way to support their recovery and share their craftsmanship with the world once again.

The hot spring resort in the city of Kaga, also is lacquerware industry.
Yamanaka lacquerware history back to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, when a group of woodworkers migrated from Echizen. In the mid-Edo period, lacquer-e techniques were introduced from Kyoto, Kanazawa, and other places, and the area developed into a production center for tea ceremony utensils.
